Another day, another Internet of Things, um, thing.
This one is SmartThings a Kickstarter, already funded, that aims to make your everyday things smart and collect them into a single platform for monitoring. They also have a maker program for tinkerers like Noel (@noelportugal), a smart move.
There aren’t a ton of details beyond pretty basic stuff, but SmartThings looks very promising. I especially like the extensibility of the platform, much like WeMo, but not constrained to objects that are plugged into an outlet.
I, for one, welcome the home of the future where my home is jacked into the intertubes and controlled by my smart-device of choice. Sure, a lot could go wrong, but much like the smartphone, the benefits of awesome outweigh the privacy concerns.
