Paul Maritz leaves VMware but joins EMC

Today VMware announced that Paul Maritz will be succeeded as Chief Executive Officer of VMware by Path Gelsinger, starting from September 1 2012.

Pat Gelsinger is currently President and COO at EMC Information Infrastructure Products.

But Maritz will not leave the family and will become Chief Strategist at EMC, that actually owns 80% of VMware.

Joe Tucci, EMC Chairman and CEO, said:

With these changes, David will assume responsibility for EMC’s Information Infrastructure business, Pat will now lead Cloud Infrastructure at VMware, and Paul will look across our technology strategy with a particular focus on Big Data and the next generation of cloud-oriented applications that will be built on top of these foundations.
